Sources and research method

Which sources support the publication and how are they used?

This register publishes what the editorial desk uses, why it uses it and where each source stops. It favors standards, authorities and institutional collections, then adds professional or product guidance only for the practice it can support.

Wayback establishes route, language and historical subject continuity. It does not supply current factual authority and is not treated as a license to republish former images or copy. The local historical manifest contains 602 successful URLkeys and assigns every one either a canonical restoration or a single thematic 301.

Source IDs appear inside guides as internal links to this page. That keeps version, freshness, jurisdiction and rights notes maintainable in one place. The editorial policy explains how a source becomes a claim.

CDX index of successful archived captures. Exact historical URLs, case, percent encoding, query variants, MIME type, first/last capture and route families.

Use: Fetch JSON mechanically; preserve the header row; count unique URL keys; normalize scheme and host only; classify root, Architecture and Singles without altering the path.
Freshness: Queried 2026-08-24; archive records span 1999-08-21 through 2025-04-22.
Rights: Low for factual route metadata. Do not republish archived page text or images merely because they are indexed.

Archived webpages and assets. Former navigation, page purpose, language and the distinction between editorial pages, galleries and technical slideshow shells.

Use: Inspect an early and a later usable snapshot for each route selected for restoration. Record only page intent and independently verifiable facts; do not copy prose or images.
Freshness: Historical evidence only; recheck before drafting each restored page.
Rights: High for reproduction of copy and photographs; use as research evidence only unless separate permission is documented.

Search across local CSV, JSON, text and log material. Trust Flow, Citation Flow, Topical Trust Flow, referring domains and backlink destination paths.

Use: Exact case-insensitive domain lookup in relevant local measurement material; later replace this absence record with one bulk-export row and URL-level destinations.

Use: Extract planning questions into the brief matrix; keep advice attributed to the guide and distinguish it from binding requirements.
Freshness: Current AIA-hosted PDF found 2026-08-24; verify revision date at update.
Rights: Summarize and link. Do not reproduce the guide or its examples at length.

Use: Create a plain-language usage checklist. Confirm current law separately and avoid turning sample practice into universal legal advice.
Freshness: Revised May 2008; useful for durable workflow concepts, not automatically current law.

Secretary of the Interior standards and guidelines for architectural and engineering documentation. The principle that documentation should explicate and illustrate what is significant or valuable about a place or structure.

Use: Use as a conceptual boundary for documentary completeness, with program scope made explicit.

Rights: Low for careful summary and citation.
